The current government of Bangladesh came in power with the commitment to ensure the rule of law and equal justice for all, regardless of political affiliation, region, or other factors. They also say the judiciary should act impartially. Importunately, in reality, their actions fully adverse these claims.
Shortly after the new interim government took office, a group of students attacked the house and office of the Chief Justice, pressuring him to resign. For the past 53 years,
we have learned to deeply respect these institutions, but this was a disrespectful act, unlike anything we have ever seen. After the Chief Justice resigned, the same group of students demanded the removal of 12 justices from the Appellate Division and the appointment of 23 new justices, chosen by Dr. Younus and his political allies, to secure judgments that favor their interests.
This group also pressured the New Chief Justice not to support judges who didn’t align with their demands. Few days back BNP back grounded lawyer through egg to the judge while he was on the bench then judge compel to leave the court by lodging complaint with the chief justice.
Many former ministers, members of parliament, government secretaries, senior police officers, army officials, and over 50,000 Awami League activists have been arrested without clear reasons. Sadly, no lawyers can move to obtain bail for detainees.
At this point, it seems that justice no longer exists in the country. "Now, the government and its political allies are collectively running the country according to their own will. It is crucial that every branch of the state acts in accordance with its constitutional powers.
"The majority of people are living in widespread insecurity and uncertainty."
